How Orthodontic Treatment Works
Orthodontic appliances come in a variety of forms and can be made from different materials. In our office, we use metal, ceramic and plastic appliances that can either be removable or fixed to the teeth.
Today’s braces are more efficient, effective and aesthetic than ever before. Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. Wired Orthodontics patients can now choose clear or metal braces, and in some cases, patients can customize their appliances with their favorite colors. Wires are far less noticeable than ever before, allowing for the braces to blend in better. Braces work by applying a gentle, yet constant controlled force to the teeth, guiding them into their proper positions. And the materials we use move teeth quicker, and more comfortably than ever before.
You’re never too old to discover the power of orthodontic treatment - any age is a great age for braces!
Duration of Treatment
Treatment time varies for each patient, but lasts on average between one and three years. How long your treatment will last depends on several factors, including your age at the time of treatment, the severity of your case, and the method for treatment. Early interceptive treatment can often times result in faster treatment time in the future.
You are also an important factor in the success of your treatment. Orthodontic treatment requires care and diligence on the part of the patient to ensure efficiency.
Before you begin your treatment, Dr. Stansbury or Dr. Nelson will discuss the treatment options available to you, as well as give you an estimate for how long treatment may take.
